As the popularity of children's fantasy films grows, we see more and more intriguing films enjoyed by both young and old audiences. The recently released trailer for Slumberland, starring Jason Momoa in a gentle and funny role, which hit the fandom with high expectations, is an example. Joining the slate of Netflix's 2022 fall releases, Slumberland is based on Winsor McCay's original comics Little Nemo in Slumberland and is the franchise's second full-length film. The first is Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, a 1989 Japanese animated film.

Under the fabulous direction of Francis Lawrence, who previously worked on popular films such as The Hunger Games, and I am Legend, Netflix is producing the film after a series of setbacks until February 2021. While you wait for the approaching adventure with bated breath, you might as well learn everything about the film. So, here's everything we know about Slumberland, the upcoming Netflix original fantasy film.
Slumberland: The Plot
Although the original comics depicted the main character, Nemo, as a boy, the film insists on portraying it as a girl because it is more appealing to the audience to see a little girl exploring her adventures like a Disney princess. So the story revolves around Nemo, who, as the name suggests, is desperately looking for something.

Nemo used to live in a lighthouse with her loving father, but after he died, she was left in the care of her dad's best friend, Philip. Her father used to tell her bedtime stories about Slumberland, a world of dreams. One night, she awakens from her slumber to find herself in a different world built on dreams. It's a place where you can wish for anything, but there are also consequences lurking in the form of nightmares. The little girl embarks on an epic journey with Jason Momoa's Flip (a silly clown with a penchant for getting into trouble) to reunite with her father, whom she has been desperately missing.

Although Slumberland mainly spins around Flip and Nemo, a few prominent characters are worth remembering. While Jason Momoa is having fun as a silly clown, Marlow Barkley as Nemo will act out her role as a lonely daughter who would do anything to get her father back. Chris O'Dowd portrays the role of a caring fatherly figure as Uncle Philip.
Despite having little screen time (as shown in the trailer), Kyle Chandler as Peter will have a significant impact on the audience as the main driving force of the story. Weruche Opia as Agent Green, Tonya Cornelisse as Agent Red, and Jamilah Rose as Agent Orange, on the other hand, would add exciting plot twists to the story by interfering with Nemo and Flip's adventures.
While these are the main screen characters highlighted in the trailer, there are a few others who can contribute to the film, including Humberly Gonzalez as Graceia, Ava Cheung as Ho-Sook, Antonio Raine Pastore as Young Peter, Luxton Handspiker as Matt, Sergio Osuna as Manager, Cameron Nicoll as Young Philip, Izaak Smith as Canadian Guy, Michael Blake as The Accountant, and Katerina Taxia as Janice.

The cast appears to be quite solid, but the crew behind the camera is equally impressive. Especially, Pinar Toprak, who previously put her talents to use on Captain Marvel, is composing the music for Slumberland.

Although the film is nothing groundbreaking to today's society, as we've seen plenty of children's fantasy movies like Alice in Wonderland, Chronicles of Narnia, and so on, fans have been intrigued by Jason Momoa's role as Flip. He's mostly known for tough-guy roles like Aquaman, See (Apple TV+), and Game of Thrones. With his different role than usual as an unconventional outlaw in Slumberland, Jason Momoa proved he can also play comical roles.
In an exclusive with People, he revealed how this role brought out his inner child, stating:
"I've got to tell you, to play in this role really unlocked a lot of things for me. I actually got to watch it with my children yesterday and with Marlow and her family. It's weird when you tear up watching your own stuff. It blew me away, and I just was so emotional. This role just let me really be free, and the character is so fun."
Slumberland is a special film for Jason Momoa, and hopefully, it will be for many of us.
